2 day Bunya Mountains Tour

"Most Australians haven't heard of the Bunya Mountains. I realize that the word "pristine" is overworked, but it really is the best word to describe it."

Day 1:

bunya mountains

At 9.30 am we depart from Brisbane CBD and in just half an hour or so you will enjoy the thrill of riding around the infamous switchbacks and through the forests at Mt Nebo and Mt Glorious. This is without a doubt one of the very best rides in Australia.

You will ride out of the forests and down into the wide open plains around Wivenhoe Dam to the heritage town of Esk where the main street is sprinkled with National Trust Buildings.

You will then climb up the Hamilton Range to The Farmers Arms at Cabarlah for a good old fashioned pub lunch at the oldest licenced hotel in Queensland.

On Fridays and Saturdays, before the sun sets over the western plains, we visit Rimfire Winery on the foothills of the Bunya Mountains. Rimfire Winery offers a wide range of quality wines, including many rare and non mainstream varieties.

Tonight your pub style accommodation will be at Dalby or The Bun at Kaimkillenbun.

DAY 2:

bunya mountains

After breakfast there is a challenging climb up the Bunya Mountains.

Rainforest canopies converge on top of the mountain and you will see glimpses into the great Australian Outback. Brilliantly coloured parrots and crimson Rosellas will greet you for a feed and you will see wallabies grazing contently by the roadside. The Bunya Mountains is an ancient and magical place to visit.

Too soon we depart the Bunya Mountains for a leisurely ride to Kingaroy and a stop at the iconic Kingaroy Peanut Van for the freshest and finest jumbo peanuts and peanut brittle in Australia.

We then ride through rich Poll Hereford country and the sleepy country towns of Nanango and Yarraman. We will stop for lunch at the tiny yet attractive timber town of Blackbutt which is bordered by State forests of aged eucalypt trees, hoop pine and Blackbutt trees before cruising down the mountain to Kilcoy, then to Woodford and D'Aigular for a sensational scenic ride through Mt Mee, Dayboro, and the beautiful Samford Valley.

You will return to Brisbane CBD at approximately 5.00 pm.
