5 Day Aussie Outback Pub Crawl

5 day outback pub tour

Remember when you secretly imagined riding with the wide open road in front of you and nothing but the thrill of adventure on your mind.

Feel the sense of freedom as you ride through the vast sunburnt Australian Outback where an endless blue sky sits silently overhead. Listen as the rumble of your bike echoes and fades into the distance. At the end of a day’s tour, after the sun goes down, witness the drama of a night sky crowded with millions of stars dazzling like diamonds.

Awaken your spirit of adventure on an Aussie Outback Pub Crawl

Day 1: Brisbane, Mt Glorious, Blackbutt, Kingaroy, Dalby

We depart from Brisbane CBD at 9.30 am. We will be out of the city in about 30 minutes and winding our way up through the forest to Mt Glorious then to the timber country around Blackbutt and the rich volcanic plains of Kingaroy and Dalby.

Approximate distance: 345 k's 215 miles.

Included:

Pub accommodation at Dalby or Kaimkillenbun

Variance:

Given favourable weather and conditions we will ride up to the Bunya Mountains. Very few tourists know about the Bunya Mountains and that's a very good thing for the people who love it just the way it is. It's a steep and winding ascent up the mountain to the world's largest forest of ancient Bunya Pines. You will be greeted by a sun filtered rainforest canopy, wallabies (small kangaroos) and pademelons grazing contentedly by the roadside, scrub turkeys, king parrots, crimson rosellas and other wild birds.

Day 2: Dalby, Chinchilla, Miles, Mitchell, Bonus Downs Station

Old fashioned hospitality in a friendly relaxed atmosphere on a working cattle station.  A stop over at Bonus Downs Station is sure to be a highlight of the tour.

Bonus Downs is ranked among the oldest established properties of the Maranoa. The homestead was built in 1911 by one of the country's most famous landholders who contributed hugely to Australia's rural progress at a time when a young and developing country needed much foresight.

Approximate distance: 400 k's 250 miles.

Included:

Breakfast

Dinner at Bonus Downs Station

Accommodation in genuine "Jackaroos" quarters at Bonus Downs Station.

Day 3: Bonus Downs Station to Nindigully Pub

After a hearty jackaroos breakfast we ride on through St George to the Nindigully Pub -  Voted "The best country pub in Australia".

Outback pubs serve as the meeting place for townsfolk and stockmen from surrounding stations so are a great place to meet the local characters and immerse yourself into the Aussie bush lifestyle.

Many city venues have tried to recreate the quirky character of Aussie Outback pubs, but the only way to truly experience this unique part of Australian life is to visit a real Great Outback Pub. You can't beat The Gully for a classic Outback pub with riverside fishing right out the front! Sitting opposite the mighty Moonie River, this sprawling building bursts with character. The scene is set by the authentic weatherboard cladding on the outer walls and Hessian lining the walls of the dining room.

Approximate distance: 280 k's 175 miles

Included:

Breakfast at Bonus Downs Station.

Accommodation at the Nindigully Pub

Day 4: Nindigully Pub, Goondiwindi, Texas, Stanthorpe

An easy ride to the regional centre of Goondiwindi. The locals swam in the McIntyre river at Goondiwindi for years before the swimming pool was built, so if it's hot, why not go down to the boat ramp and jump in too?

After a browse around Goondiwindi we ride through the lowlands around Texas and up to Stanthorpe. This large town in Queensland's Granite Belt stands on a high plateau and experiences Queensland's lowest temperatures. Stanthorpe is known for it's apples, pears, table grapes and wines - industries developed by its large Italian community.

Approximate distance: 375 k's 235 miles.

Included:

Breakfast at "The Gully"

Pub accommodation in Stanthorpe

Day 5: Stanthorpe, Warwick, Toowoomba, Great Dividing Range,               Esk, Kilcoy, Mt Mee, Samford, Brisbane

After a hearty breakfast we take a short ride and stop at Vincenzos at The Big Apple just 10 minutes north of Stanthorpe. Vincenzo's showcases the regions prime produce and liqueurs. Time to enjoy a cup of their finest coffee, chocolates, specially made gelati, local liqueurs and a range of gourmet Italian food before riding back to Brisbane through the provincial city of Toowoomba, down the Great Dividing Range to the pretty little town of Esk with its historic buildings lining the main street to Kilcoy, then over the rolling green hills around Mt Mee and through beautiful open forests and rainforests to the villages of Dayboro of Samford before arriving back in Brisbane at around 4.00 pm.

Approximate distance: 385 k's 240 miles.

Departure days

Freedom Wheels 5 Day Aussie Outback Tour is best from April to October and is subject to availability of bikes, trikes and accommodation.

Tours depart Brisbane at 9.30 am on Mon, Thu, Fri, Sat.

Variance 1: Departures from the Gold Coast by arrangement. We would then suggest a tour reversal with first night at Stanthorpe and a tour variance through Esk and the Brisbane Valley on Day 5.

Variance 2: If Bonus Downs Station is inaccessible due to wet conditions (highly unlikely April to October) then dinner, bed and breakfast will be provided at the Court House Hotel in Mitchell.
